Common signs are rusty or discoloured hot water, water pooling around the cylinder, running out of hot water faster than usual, or a cylinder over 12 to 15 years old. We can inspect it and tell you whether a repair (like a thermostat or pressure valve replacement) will do the job or if replacement makes more sense. When your cylinder is quite old often it is more economical in the long run to just replace the whole thing. However, Josh will always advise you of all of your options and sometimes just replacing a valve is enough to get a couple of extra years out of your cylinder.

Mains pressure systems deliver hot water at the same strong pressure as your cold taps, ideal for modern showers and mixers. Low pressure systems are older-style and gentler on flow. Many Te Awamutu homes still run low pressure cylinders, and upgrading to mains pressure is one of the most popular improvements we do to older homes to give you a better shower on those cold winter days.

It depends on your household. Electric cylinders are simple and reliable, gas hot water heats faster and usually costs less to run if you have gas available. Lastly, continuous flow (instant) systems never run out of hot water and free up cupboard space. During a site visit to provide a quote Josh will ask you a few questions to help recommend the right option for your household and budget.

A like-for-like hot water cylinder replacement is usually done in a day or less. Switching system types, for example from a low pressure cylinder to mains pressure or gas continuous flow, can take a little longer depending on pipework changes necessary.

Often, yes. Faulty thermostats, heating elements and pressure valves are common issues and much cheaper to replace than the whole cylinder. Josh will diagnose the fault first and only recommend replacement when it's genuinely the better option for you and your family.
